Garment beads are commonly applied to corded details on hoods, waistbands, hems, cuffs, bags and footwear panels. On top of decoration, they help keep cord ends visible, make adjustable trims easier to handle and add small logos, acting as a cleaner alternative to knots, stitching or bulky hardware.
Material choice usually depends on the weight, feel, strength and finish needed for the garment. Common bead materials include zinc alloy for a heavier premium feel, TPU or TPE for flexible grip, POM for lightweight strength, and corozo or resin for a natural look.
For sustainable options, recycled metals or polymers can be considered, subject to performance and compliance requirements.
Start with the garment fabric, cord thickness and final use when sourcing wholesale beads for apparel or accessories. For example, heavy metal options suit thicker fabrics and premium outerwear, while lighter polymers work better for thin materials. Check inner diameter, finish, colour consistency, washing needs, and whether the bead should act as a slider, stopper, or decorative detail.
Decorative beads for clothing can replace raw cord knots with cleaner hardware, add colour or brand contrast, and make drawstrings easier to grip. They can also add weight to cords, keep hems or hoods in place, and give garments a more finished retail look.
Choose a bead hole size that closely matches the diameter of your cord or drawstring. Measure the cord when it’s relaxed, then add a small amount of clearance so it slides through smoothly. Softer cords compress easily, while stiff cords like bungee usually need a tighter, more precise fit to prevent jamming.
Beads with too much weight can pull light fabrics down, distort seams, or make drawstrings swing during movement. This can affect the garment shape and user comfort. For lightweight jerseys, thin nylon or delicate outerwear, hollow structures, TPU, POM, or bio-cellulose options are often better than heavy metal trims.
Yes, many barrel-style beads can work as both a middle slider and a cord end-cap, depending on their inner shape. As a slider, the cord passes through and is held by friction. As an end-cap, a knot can sit inside a wider base to secure and finish the cord end.
Beads can be used on safety-sensitive products, including childrenswear, only when the design, attachment and garment construction meet the required safety standards in your region. Since small detachable parts may create choking risks, testing should cover pull strength, secure fastening, sharp edges and drawcord placement.
A logo or icon can be added to beads depending on the material, shape and available surface area. In terms of branding, the mark can be embossed, debossed, engraved, printed or moulded directly into the bead. Fine details, curved surfaces and small sizes may affect legibility, so artwork should be checked during sampling before bulk production.
For apparel beads, durability testing should cover wash resistance, abrasion, colour fastness, cracking, plating stability, edge smoothness and friction against the cord. For bulk bead production, testing the product with the final drawcord helps confirm grip, movement, finish quality and performance.
